Our children deserve clean air to breathe, pure water to drink, and a green India to call home
See the RealityWorking towards a sustainable future for India
Haritam is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing India's most pressing environmental challenges. Founded in 2020, we work with communities across the country to create sustainable solutions for air pollution, water scarcity, waste management, and climate change.
Our mission is simple yet powerful: to create a greener, healthier India for future generations. We believe that environmental protection is not just about saving the planet – it's about protecting the health and wellbeing of every Indian family.
Through community engagement, education, and direct action, we're building a movement that transforms how India approaches environmental challenges. Every tree we plant, every community we educate, and every policy we advocate for brings us closer to our vision of a sustainable India.
To create an India where every child can breathe clean air, drink pure water, and live in harmony with nature. We envision cities with green spaces, rivers that run clean, and communities that thrive sustainably.
To empower communities across India with the knowledge, tools, and support they need to solve environmental challenges at the grassroots level. We focus on practical, scalable solutions that make a real difference in people's lives.
Understanding the challenges we face today
India's air quality crisis affects millions of lives daily. Delhi, Mumbai, and other major cities regularly exceed WHO air quality standards by 10-15 times. Children develop respiratory problems at alarming rates, and life expectancy is reduced by years due to poor air quality.
Indians die annually from air pollution-related diseases
The economic cost of air pollution in India is estimated at $95 billion annually, affecting productivity, healthcare costs, and quality of life across the country.
India faces its worst water crisis in history. Twenty-one major cities, including Delhi, Bangalore, and Chennai, are approaching 'Day Zero' – the point where municipal water supplies run dry. Groundwater levels are depleting at alarming rates.
Indians face high to extreme water stress
Rural communities are disproportionately affected, with women and children walking miles daily to fetch water. Agriculture, which employs 50% of India's workforce, is severely impacted by water shortages.
India generates massive amounts of plastic waste daily, much of which ends up in rivers, oceans, and landfills. Single-use plastics choke our waterways, harm marine life, and create microplastics that enter the food chain.
Plastic waste generated daily across India
Poor waste management infrastructure means that only 60% of plastic waste is recycled, leaving thousands of tonnes to pollute our environment and affect public health.
Rising temperatures, erratic monsoons, and extreme weather events are becoming the new normal. Farmers face crop failures, cities experience deadly heat waves, and coastal communities deal with rising sea levels and cyclones.
Record temperatures recorded in North India
Climate change disproportionately affects India's most vulnerable populations, including farmers, urban poor, and coastal communities, threatening food security and economic stability.
Practical, scalable solutions that make a real difference
